Detection of magnetic thin film impurity phases using nitrogen vacancy centers in diamond crystal

2019

We demonstrate the possibility to detect magnetic impurity phases in thin films using magnetic field imaging technique based on a layer of nitrogen-vacancy centers in the diamond lattice. We demonstrate results of magnetic field distributions created by impurity phases as well as mechanical defects on the thin film surface.

Influence of complex impurity centres on radiation damage in wide-gap metal oxides

2016

Different mechanisms of radiation damage of wide-gap metal oxides as well as a dual influence of impurity ions on the efficiency of radiation damage have been considered on the example of binary ionic MgO and complex ionic–covalent $Lu_{3}Al_{5}O_{12}$ single crystals. Particular emphasis has been placed on irradiation with $\sim$2 GeV heavy ions ($^{197}Au, ^{209}Bi, ^{238}U$, fluence of 10$^{12}$ ions/cm$^{2}$) providing extremely high density of electronic excitations within ion tracks. Besides knock-out mechanism for Frenkel pair formation, the additional mechanism through the collapse of mobile discrete breathers at certain lattice places (e.g., complex impurity centres) leads to the c…

Magnetic order in the heavy fermion system Ce(Cu1−xNix)2Ge2

1990

Abstract The magnetic phase diagram of the heavy fermion (HF) systems Ce(Cu 1−x Ni x ) 2 Ge 2 is discussed utilizing results of transport, thermodynamic and neutron-scattering measurements. While the Kondo temperature increases monotonically with x, a complex x-dependence is found for the Neel temperature, associated with a transition from local-moment to itinerant HF magnetism.

Stability and dynamics of in-plane skyrmions in collinear ferromagnets

2019

We study the emergence and dynamics of in-plane skyrmions in collinear ferromagnetic heterostructures. We present a minimal energy model for this class of magnetic textures, determine the crystal symmetries compatible with it and propose material candidates, based on symmetries only, for the observation of these topological solitons. We calculate exact solutions of the energy model for in-plane skyrmions in the absence of dipolar interactions at critical coupling, the latter defined by the relations $H = K$ and $D = \sqrt{AK}$ for the strength of the external magnetic field and the Dzyaloshinskii coupling constant, respectively, with $K$ and $A$ being the anisotropy constant and the exchang…

Aharonov–Bohm/Casher effect in a Kondo ring

2000

The in#uence of a magnetic impurity or ultrasmall quantum dot on the spin and charge persistent currents of a mesoscopic ring is investigated. The system consists of electrons in a one-dimensional ring threaded by spin-dependent Aharonov}Bohm/Casher #uxes, and coupled via an antiferromagnetic exchange interaction to a localized electron. The problem is mapped onto a Kondo model for the even-parity channel plus free electrons in the odd-parity channel. The twisted boundary conditions representing the #uxes couple states of opposite parity unless the twist angles / a satisfy / a "f a p, where f a are integers, with spin index a"C, B. For these special values of / a , the model is solvable by …
